Kathmandu Aug 21: Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), announced that users will no longer have the ability to block others from viewing their posts or leaving comments. He believes that this feature doesn’t make sense. Instead, users will only be able to prevent others from sending them direct messages. A new option introduced is muting, which lets users hide another account’s posts from their own timeline without unfollowing or blocking that account. However, posts from the muted account remain visible to the user.

This decision has generated concerns among many X users, with some worried that it will hinder their ability to filter out harassment and bullying. Additionally, organizations like the Auschwitz Memorial have expressed worries about not being able to block users who post offensive and hateful content. They argue that this change might not serve the best interests of their causes. It’s worth noting that this alteration in X’s functionality could potentially lead to problems with app stores like Apple’s App Store and Google Play, which could consider it a violation of their terms and conditions. This, in turn, might affect the app’s availability on those platforms.
