Pashupatinath Temple Bans Meat, Alcohol, and Intoxicants to Preserve Sacred Sanctity
Kathmandu, Sept 17 : The Kathmandu District Administration Office has prohibited the sale of meat, alcohol, and intoxicants on the premises of the Pashupatinath Temple. They have imposed a ban on these items within a radius of four kilometers around the temple.
In a public notice issued on Sunday, the District Administration Office mentioned that this decision is taken to maintain the security, religious sanctity, and purity of the Pashupatinath area. They have strictly forbidden the production, sale, distribution, storage, and consumption of meat, alcohol, and intoxicants in this area.
The administration has invoked Section 6(3)(k) and (l) of the Local Administration Act 2028 BS, and this ban will come into effect from August 31st onwards. Any violation of this notice could result in legal action under this law.
Previously, the area around Pashupatinath Temple had been divided into four zones, and the ban applies to the entire eastern zone, from the eastern border to the western border. It extends north from the Tilganga Chakrapath to the northern border and south from Maitri Park, Umakunda, and Gaurighat to the southern border.
