Tragic Crash: Italian Air Force Jet Kills Child in Fiery Accident
Kathmandu, Sept 17: A jet from the Italian Air Force’s aerobatics team crashed while practicing near the city of Turin. Sadly, a 5-year-old child died, and her 9-year-old brother was seriously burned when debris from the crashing plane hit their car.
The plane, called MB-339, exploded shortly after takeoff around noon local time, according to the Italian Fire Brigade. Fortunately, the pilot survived by ejecting and is now being treated for burns at Giovanni Bosco Hospital in Turin.
The Frecce Tricolori aerobatic jets, part of the Italian Air Force, were practicing for the 100-year celebration of the Italian Air Force scheduled for Sunday. The accident occurred within the airport’s boundaries shortly after takeoff.
Reports suggest that the jets may have hit a group of birds after takeoff, causing the crash. The children were in a car on a nearby road when the incident happened. The 9-year-old boy survived but suffered severe burns, while his parents were also injured.
The Italian Air Force expressed its shock and sadness over the crash and mentioned that the jet, called Pony 4, had lost altitude shortly after takeoff. They suspect a bird strike may have occurred during the early stages of takeoff as a possible cause of the accident.
