Kathmandu, Oct 3: The local administration in Nepalgunj, Banke, has issued a curfew order in response to rising tensions between two religious communities. The curfew, effective from 1 PM on Monday until further notice, aims to maintain public safety amid possible confrontations.

According to Vipin Acharya, the Chief District Officer, the decision to impose curfew stems from recent incidents of public property damage, disturbances, stone-pelting, and other potentially violent activities. These events were associated with a rally organized by the Muslim community on the social media-promoted date of 16th September 2080.

The curfew is in effect within the boundaries defined as follows: from Rapti River Bridge in the east to Indrapur Road in the west, Ranja Chowk in the north, and Jamunaha Border Point in the south. During the curfew period, gatherings, rallies, processions, and public demonstrations are strictly prohibited.

The local administration has invoked the authority granted by Section 6(1)(3) of the Local Administration Act, 2028 BS, to issue this curfew order. Security forces are authorized to use force as necessary and take legal action against anyone violating the curfew.

The situation remains tense, and authorities are closely monitoring developments to ensure public safety and prevent any further escalation of conflicts in the Nepalgunj area.
