Nepal’s Top Officials Address Security Challenges in Madhes Province
Bardibas, Oct 4: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, along with chief district officers from eight major districts, and top security officials from both provincial and district levels, gathered today to discuss pressing security issues in Madhes Province.
In a proactive move, these officials came together in a responsive meeting held in Bardibas, Mahottari. The chief district officers presented their respective reports, followed by security agencies’ heads, who shared critical insights and observations.
During the discussions, it was noted that religious harmony was being tested in some areas, with the active participation of religious elements. The misuse of meter taxation laws and commissions, as well as related commissions and boards in some municipalities, was also identified as a concern. Furthermore, issues related to disturbances arising from certain individuals on social media and their potential to incite violence were brought to attention.
The upcoming elections in India, which are drawing nearer, have raised concerns regarding potential tensions along the border, increased illegal border crossings, and the excessive use of Indian vehicles in Nepal.
The officials emphasized their commitment to keeping a vigilant eye on all unlawful activities and maintaining a firm stance on security issues. They underscored the need for continuous monitoring of both overt and covert activities to ensure public safety.
This meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, spokespersons from government agencies, the Inspector General of Nepal Police, and the Chief of the Armed Police Force in Madhes Province. It reflects the government’s determination to address security challenges promptly and effectively in the region.
