CIB and Interpol Collaboration: Nepali Fraud Suspect Arrested in UAE and Repatriated
Kathmandu, Dec 16: In a collaborative effort between the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), a fraud suspect has been apprehended in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and brought back to Nepal to face charges.
Komalraj Upadhyay, a resident of Sarlahi Sawik Jankinagar VDC-7, was arrested in the UAE and subsequently transported to Nepal. Superintendent of Police Navraj Adhikari, the spokesperson for CIB, confirmed the arrest, stating that an arrest warrant had been issued against Upadhyay by the court for alleged fraud. The suspect was brought back to Nepal on Friday to face legal action in connection with the fraud case.
According to Adhikari, Interpol played a crucial role in facilitating the arrest. A red notice, issued by the Interpol General Secretariat on the 27th of Baisakh 2079, at the request of the Interpol Branch, enabled international search and arrest operations. The spokesperson explained, “51 victims have filed a complaint against him, stating that he invited them to Dubai on the pretext of employment through a visit visa, collected money from them, but failed to provide the promised employment.”
The arrest highlights the coordinated efforts between Nepali law enforcement and international agencies to combat transnational crimes and bring alleged offenders to justice. As the legal proceedings unfold, the victims hope for a resolution to the fraudulent activities that have affected them.
