Plane Carrying 30 Passengers Lands Safely in Frozen River in Russia’s Far East

Kathmandu, Dec 31: In a potentially disastrous incident in Russia’s far east, a Soviet-era Antonov-24 plane with 30 passengers landed in the frozen Kolyma River near Zhiryanka due to pilot error. Fortunately, the plane landed safely, averting a major accident. Preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred as a result of an error made by the pilot during the flight. The East Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s spokesperson shared that no casualties were reported, and Polar Airlines, the operator of the aircraft, confirmed the safe landing outside the runway at Zaryanka Airport. Passengers were seen disembarking from the plane on the frozen river.
