Motorable Bridge Over Chaktang River Eases Travel in Mustang
Myagdi, Feb 6: In a significant stride towards enhancing transportation infrastructure, a motorable bridge has been successfully constructed over the Chaktang River in Thasang Rural Municipality of Mustang. This bridge, part of the North-South Corridor of Kaligand, Beni-Jomsom-Korla Road project under the National Pride initiative, promises to facilitate smoother vehicular movement in the region.
Engineer Vishnu Chapagarin reported the completion of an 80-meter-long prestressed concrete beam motorized bridge with a double span at Chaktangkhola. Despite the access road to the bridge awaiting paving, vehicles can now navigate the river with ease, eliminating the inconvenience of traffic stoppages and vehicle retrievals from the river.
The construction, undertaken by Kalika-Gajurmukhi JV under a contract worth Rs. 7 crore 42 lakh, has achieved remarkable physical and financial progress. This bridge is one among six motorable bridges constructed along the Beni-Jomsom Korla road, spanning a distance of 202 km.
Additionally, various construction companies have been contracted to build five bridges under the Beni-Jomsom Korla project, with significant progress already witnessed. Notable projects include the construction of bridges in Lomanthang by Muktinath-Amit JV and those at Mahbhir in Myagdi, Pokhrebgar, and Begkhola by the West Sector Office of the Bridge Division in Palpa.
The completion of these infrastructure projects is set to bolster connectivity and spur economic development across the region. With gravel and black road sections nearing completion, the road network from Maldhunga in Parbat to Myagdi, extending to the border with China at Korla Pass in Mustang, holds promise for enhancing trade, tourism, and overall regional prosperity.
As the journey towards improved transportation infrastructure continues, these developments are poised to play a pivotal role in fostering socio-economic growth and unlocking the full potential of the region’s resources and opportunities.
