Nepal Police Arrests Over 5,000 Absconding Defendants in First Half of Fiscal Year
Kathmandu, Feb 10: In the initial six months of the ongoing fiscal year, Nepal Police has apprehended a staggering 5,364 individuals who were absconding from the law, marking a significant increase compared to previous years.
According to reports from the Central Police News Agency, this arrest tally reflects a substantial surge of about 313 percent compared to the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year. The apprehended individuals were wanted in various criminal cases ranging from murder, drug offenses, extortion, banking fraud, to other serious crimes.
The arrests were made across different provinces of Nepal, with significant numbers recorded in areas such as Maharajganj, the Kathmandu Valley, Koshi Province, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province, Karnali Province, and Sudurpaschim Province.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Crime Investigation Department, Janak Bhattarai, highlighted that Nepal Police executed a specialized campaign to track down and arrest individuals evading justice after being convicted in diverse criminal cases.
In addition to the arrests, Nepal Police also imposed fines on the apprehended individuals, amounting to a substantial sum, further emphasizing the law enforcement’s resolve to uphold justice and maintain public safety across the nation.
