Putin: Ukraine Conflict a Matter of Life and Death for Russia
Kathmandu, Feb 19: Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the gravity of the situation in Ukraine, stating that it is a matter of life and death for Russia.
In an interview with Russian media, Putin expressed the significance of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine for Russia’s strategic positioning and overall destiny, terming it as a critical issue.
Putin’s remarks came following his recent two-hour interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, where he aimed to present Russia’s perspective on the Ukraine war to a global audience.
During the interview, Putin delved into Russia’s historical context and questioned the existence of Ukraine, among other topics.
Meanwhile, Russia has announced the capture of the city of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine, marking a significant advance in the conflict. Ukrainian forces have reportedly begun withdrawing from the area, with some soldiers still reportedly trapped in strategic locations.
The fall of Avdiivka represents Russia’s most substantial military gain since the capture of Bakhmut last year. President Putin initiated the invasion of Ukraine two years ago.
On the diplomatic front, President Joe Biden of the United States has faced challenges in securing congressional approval for aid to Ukraine, despite his assurance to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during their recent meeting.
Ukrainian troops in Avdiivka are reportedly grappling with shortages of weapons and ammunition, highlighting the challenges faced by Ukrainian forces on the ground.
