NEPSE Index Records Significant Decline in Kathmandu Stock Market
Kathmandu, Feb 29: The NEPSE index, a crucial metric for assessing stock market performance, witnessed a notable downturn today in Kathmandu. According to reports from the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), the NEPSE index fell sharply by 28.68 points, reaching 1,972.09.
Similarly, the sensitive index, which monitors the performance of larger companies, also experienced a decline, dropping by 4.79 points to 351.65. All 13 sub-groups tracked by NEPSE reported decreases in transactions.
Today’s trading saw a total turnover of 7,446,991 shares, with significant activity across various sectors.
Sonapur Minerals emerged as the top performer in terms of turnover, with transactions totaling Rs 111,310,346. Other notable entities in the top five turnover rankings include Joshi Hydropower, Himalayan Reinsurance, Hathaway Investment, and Shivam Cement.
However, individual stock performances varied, with Bottlers Nepal Balaju witnessing a notable increase of 10 percent, initiating a positive circuit. Conversely, several microfinance and hydropower companies experienced losses, highlighting the volatile nature of the market.
The fluctuation in the NEPSE index underscores the dynamic nature of the Kathmandu stock market and emphasizes the importance of prudent investment decisions in navigating market volatility.
