Saudi Arabia Announces Start of Ramadan; Observance Begins March 11
Kathmandu, Mar 11: Saudi Arabia has officially declared that the holy month of Ramadan will commence on Monday, March 11, signaling the beginning of a period of spiritual reflection and fasting for Muslims worldwide.
The sighting of the moon in Saudi Arabia on Sunday marked the precursor to the commencement of Ramadan, with the fasting period commencing on the following day, as per Islamic tradition.
The announcement by Saudi authorities also signifies the start of Ramadan in the Indian subcontinent, aligning with the declaration made by the Kingdom.
Ramadan holds profound significance in Islam, revered as a sacred month during which Muslims observe fasting from dawn until sunset. Fasting during Ramadan is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam, alongside the belief in one God, performing Namaz (prayer), giving Zakat (charity), and undertaking Hajj (pilgrimage) for those who are able.
Islamic scholars maintain that the obligation of fasting during Ramadan was established in the second year of Hijri, as mandated by the Quran, the holy scripture of Islam. As Muslims around the world embark on this spiritual journey, Ramadan serves as a period of introspection, devotion, and community solidarity.
