Patan High Court Orders Dismissal of Sandeep Lamichhane’s Conviction in Rape Case
Kathmandu, Mar 24: The Patan High Court has issued an order to dismiss the case against cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who was previously convicted in a rape case.
In a hearing today, the joint bench comprising Chief Justice Nripadhwaj Niraula and Justice Krishnaram Koirala ruled in favor of a writ filed seeking the annulment of the District Court Kathmandu’s decision. The District Court had sentenced Lamichhane to eight years in prison, along with a fine and compensation of five lakh rupees, on January 25. Lamichhane subsequently filed an appeal with the Patan High Court challenging the lower court’s verdict.
The court has initiated the process of summoning both parties involved in the case, scheduling their appearance for the 3rd of Baisakh. The hearing aims to address the appeal and reconsider the previous ruling.
Sandeep Lamichhane was accused of raping a girl, leading to his arrest by the police on October 20, 2079, following a complaint lodged on August 21 of the same year. The court’s decision to dismiss the case signifies a significant development in Lamichhane’s legal proceedings.
