Kathmandu, May 19: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has raised concerns that Russia may escalate its attacks in the northeastern region of Ukraine following recent successes near Kharkiv. He stated that the Russian army is aiming to weaken the Ukrainian front lines.
Zelensky acknowledged that the morale of the Ukrainian army is currently low, with some units facing significant depletion. He revealed that Ukraine possesses only 25 percent of the weapons necessary for its security.
The United States recently announced a substantial aid package worth 61 billion rupees, including military assistance, to support Ukraine.
In recent days, Russia has claimed the capture of several villages in the northeastern region near Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city. The governor of Kharkiv reported that approximately 10,000 people have been displaced from the city over the past week. Despite these challenges, the governor asserted that the Ukrainian army still has control over the situation.
Zelensky emphasized the urgent need for more soldiers on the front lines to bolster Ukraine’s defense.
