Canada Declares Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a Terrorist Organization
Kathmandu, Jun 25: Canada has officially designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. This decision comes with a strong advisory for Canadian citizens to leave Iran immediately.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the IRGC is now on Canada’s list of terrorist groups. Trudeau’s administration highlighted that this move aims to restrict terrorist financing and sends a clear message that Canada will actively combat all terrorist activities of the IRGC.
The Canadian government emphasized Iran’s continuous human rights violations as a key reason for this designation. Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc cited Iran’s human rights record as the driving factor behind the decision.
The IRGC, also known as Sipah-e-Pasadaran, was established after the Islamic Revolution and has since evolved into a powerful force within Iran, operating across land, sea, and air. It reports directly to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and oversees Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs.
Iran has yet to respond to Canada’s declaration.
