Proposal for 419 Events in 10th National Games in Karnali Province

Kathmandu, Jul 11: Tanklal Ghising, Member-Secretary of the National Sports Council (Rakhep), has proposed 419 events across 35 sports for the upcoming 10th National Games in Karnali Province.

The proposal was made during a meeting held today, presided over by Rakhep Vice President Shiv Koirala and Member-Secretary Ghising, discussing both the 10th National Games and the first Para National Games.

Ghising proposed including 35 of the 36 sports from the 9th National Games, excluding paragliding. The 10th National Games are scheduled from December 2 to December 9, with competitions for six different sports proposed to start on November 27. These sports include women’s football, wushu, men’s and women’s basketball, judo, men’s and women’s hockey, and taekwondo. A total of 1,499 participants are proposed.

Ghising announced that a budget of Rs 600 million has been secured from the Government of Nepal for the 10th National Games. This budget will be allocated to the Karnali Province Sports Development Council to facilitate preparations. He emphasized the importance of organizing these games as the country’s largest sports event and called for all stakeholders to take responsibility and work seriously to ensure its success.

Ghising affirmed that the Council is ready to organize the 10th National Games on schedule and stressed the need to professionalize sports. He mentioned that the logo and mascot have been selected and that arrangements are being made to delegate the responsibility of managing sports uniforms to the respective provinces.

After the completion of the 10th National Games, Para Games will be organized in Karnali for the first time in Nepal, aligning with international practices. Ghising requested timely suggestions on the proposed points. During the meeting, Rakhep Vice President Shiv Koirala assured that the suggestions received regarding the revision of sports management guidelines will be addressed.

Bishwamitra Sanjyal, Member-Secretary of the Karnali Province Sports Development Council, mentioned that due to accommodation constraints, only 22 to 24 sports can be hosted in the five districts of Karnali Province. He urged for a quick decision on the remaining sports. Provincial sports officials present at the meeting discussed issues such as player selection from rural areas, ensuring participation of at least five teams in each game, and the timely release of the budget.
