Heavy Rains and Resulting Disasters Claim 134 Lives in Nepal

Kathmandu, Jul 25: Incessant rains since May 28th have led to a series of devastating floods and landslides across Nepal, resulting in the tragic loss of 134 lives. According to Central Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, the fatalities span several provinces: two in Kathmandu Valley, 22 in Koshi Province, six in Madhes Province, 25 in Bagmati Province, 38 in Gandaki Province, 23 in Lumbini Province, eight in Karnali Province, and 10 in Far Western Province.

The disasters have also left 148 people injured: 34 in Koshi Province, nine in Madhes Province, nine in Bagmati Province, 29 in Gandaki Province, nine in Lumbini Province, 35 in Karnali Province, and 14 in Far Western Province. The floods and landslides have also led to the disappearance of individuals: two in Koshi Province, two in Bagmati Province, one in Gandaki Province, one in Lumbini Province, and one in Karnali Province. Efforts to locate the missing persons are ongoing.

The floods have inundated a total of 184 houses. Additionally, 237 houses, 86 sheds, 43 bridges, two schools, and two government offices have been damaged. The agricultural sector has also suffered, with 603 livestock reported dead. Moreover, 4,030 families have been displaced due to these disasters.

The authorities continue to respond to the aftermath, working on rescue and relief operations to support the affected communities.
