Dengue and Cholera Infections Surge in Nepal: Over 3,000 Dengue Cases Reported
Kathmandu, Aug 10: The number of dengue and cholera infections in Nepal has recently surged. According to the Epidemiology and Communicable Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population, the total number of dengue cases has reached 3,084.
In the past four days alone, 722 new dengue cases were reported, up from 2,365 on July 21. Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, head of the division’s insect disease branch, stated that the number has climbed to 3,084 as of Friday.
Dengue infection has spread across all districts except Mustang, Dolpa, Jumla, and Humla. The highest number of cases was reported in Tanahun, with 583 infections, followed by 307 in Kathmandu, 166 in Kaski, and 135 in Jhapa.
In response to the rising dengue cases, the Ministry of Health has urged all government and non-government offices, as well as hospital premises, to conduct a ‘Find and Destroy Mosquitoes’ campaign every Friday. The government has also decided to cover the cost of dengue treatment in government hospitals.
In addition, the number of cholera patients has reached 47, with cases reported in Lalitpur, Kathmandu, Pyuthan, Kailali, and Rupandehi, according to Dr. Dahal. Specifically, 34 cases were confirmed in Lalitpur, two in Kathmandu, eight in Kailali, two in Pyuthan, and one in Rupandehi.
