Rising Water Levels in Thuliveri and Saniveri Rivers Pose High Risk to Coastal Settlements
Triveni, Aug 12: Continuous rains have caused the water levels of the Thuliveri and Saniveri rivers to rise, prompting a warning for residents near the coastal areas to exercise caution.
The rising water levels have placed the settlements around Aathbiskot Municipality, Saniveri Rural Municipality, and Chaurjahari Municipality in Rukumpaschim at high risk. Saniveri Rural Municipality Spokesman Pahlsingh Gharti reported that the flow of the Saniveri River has significantly increased due to the persistent rains over the past few days. Locals have been advised to avoid activities such as fishing and wood collection near the river.
Aathbiskot Mayor Ravi KC also emphasized the need for vigilance among nearby residents due to the increased river flow. The District Administration Office in Rukumpaschim confirmed that the surface levels of both rivers have risen, as observed on flood measurement gauges.
Assistant Chief District Officer Vinod Regmi urged locals in the high-risk coastal areas to remain vigilant. With continuous rainfall since Saturday, residents across Rukum Paschim have been advised to take precautions against potential floods and landslides.
