Myagdi, Aug 23: The Boksikhola river in Mustang, which was blocked by an avalanche from the Manapathi mountain of the Dhaulagiri snow range, has resumed its flow.

Pradeep Gouchan, President of Thasang Rural Municipality, reported that the Boksikhola, blocked by an avalanche at Mulkhark in Thasang Rural Municipality-2, started flowing again after about three hours. “Around 1:30 p.m. today, the water level in the river decreased by two-thirds due to the landslide accumulation,” he noted, adding that caution has been advised in the downstream areas.

Chairman Gouchan explained that the river water melted the accumulated snow on the hill, allowing the river to flow again. The Boksi River eventually flows into the Kaligandaki river, located approximately 15 km below the avalanche site. While there are no settlements nearby, the Beni-Jomsom road runs alongside the Boksi River.

Local officials, including Village Chairman Gouchan, Chief District Officer of Mustang Janakraj Pant, Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhojraj Pandey, armed police, Nepali Army officers, public representatives, and local residents, inspected the landslide site.

Chief District Officer Pant indicated that the risk is expected to be low as the lake is not visible, but caution has been urged in coastal areas until the snow fully melts.

Previously, on November 28 and February 21, 2078, more than 150 chaurigai were killed by an avalanche from Tukuche mountain in Thasang Rural Municipality-2 Kowang. Fortunately, there were no human or livestock casualties in the latest landslide incident, according to the district administration office.
