Jimbu Thakali Fined Rs 3 Lakh for Overcharging on Mineral Water

Kathmandu, Sept 23: The Commerce and Supply Consumer Protection Department has fined Jimbu Thakali, a restaurant in Shanti Nagar, Kathmandu, Rs 3 lakh for selling mineral water at double the marked retail price.

A complaint was lodged stating that the restaurant charged customers up to Rs 100 for a bottle of mineral water priced at Rs 35. A team led by Director General Rajan Paudel conducted a surprise inspection at the restaurant.

Director General Paudel confirmed that Jimbu Thakali was fined under the Consumer Protection Act 2075 for overcharging consumers. He warned that the restaurant would be sealed if it continues to sell items, including water, at inflated prices.

Paudel also mentioned that the department has deployed seven teams to monitor the market during the festival season and has intensified inspections nationwide, including in the Kathmandu Valley, to protect consumers from fraud.
