Kathmandu, Sept 24: Around 1.8 million people are estimated to leave Kathmandu Valley during this year’s Dashain festival, an increase of 500,000 compared to last year, according to Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office spokesperson Vishwaraj Khadka.

Spokesperson Khadka noted that last year, 1.3 million people left the valley, and if the weather remains favorable, the number could rise this year. He also expressed concern that the increase in travel during the festival could lead to more accidents due to factors such as poor road conditions, overcrowded vehicles, and overloaded buses.

To address this, an integrated security plan is being developed with the cooperation of all three districts in the valley. Khadka emphasized the importance of stricter enforcement of traffic rules and urged both drivers and passengers to exercise caution during the festive season.
