Kathmandu, Sept 27: The Bagmati River has surpassed the danger level, prompting a high alert from authorities. The Flood Forecasting Division of the Meteorological Department stated that the water level at the Khokna hydromeasuring station has reached around 5 meters, significantly exceeding the danger threshold of 4 meters.

As the water level is still rising, the department has urged people residing or traveling near the riverbanks to remain vigilant until tomorrow afternoon.

Several other rivers and streams in the valley have also reached cautionary levels. The Pasaha River at the Maheshpur measuring station in Bara district has crossed its alert level and is continuing to rise.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported that water levels have reached warning levels at 32 flood monitoring stations across Nepal. The authority warned residents of low-lying areas to stay safe as the Kulekhani dam may overflow, necessitating its release.

Residents living downstream of the Kulekhani Dam and along the Bagmati River up to Rautahat and Sarlahi have been advised to exercise extreme caution, according to spokesperson Dr. Dijon Bhattarai.
