Repairs on Damaged Roads and Bridges to Cost NPR 2.5 Billion: Ministry of Transport
Kathmandu, Sept 30: The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has estimated that it will require NPR 2.5 billion to restore transportation services through the damaged roads and bridges across the country. According to Gopal Jhapali, Press Coordinator for Minister Devendra Dahal, the funds will be allocated to repair and improve roadways and bridges impacted by recent damage, ensuring smooth traffic operations.
As per the ministry’s assessment, traffic disruptions have been reported on 42 locations across 14 highways, including major routes such as Arnico Highway, BP Highway, Kanti Highway, Pushpalal Madhyapahari Highway, Mechi Highway, Madan Bhandari Highway, and the Kaligandaki Corridor.
The ministry has also identified five bridges that have sustained damage: Sunkoshi Bridge in Khurkot, Sindhuretar and Phoksingtar Bridges, Liping Bridge on Arnico Highway, and the Rate Khola Bridge on the Ilam Maipokhari road. Additionally, two suspension bridges over the Larcha and Hewa rivers have been damaged.
Efforts to address the situation have resulted in the resumption of one-way traffic on the Nowbise-Mugling section of the Prithvi Highway, with further repairs underway to restore normal traffic flow in the affected areas.
