CSOs Hand Over Their Recommendations for CoP29 to Rt Hon President Ramchandra Paudel
Kathmandu, Nov 8 : Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) handed over the recommendations to the Rt Hon. President Ramchandra Poudel, which were gathered from the National Climate Assembly 2024 held on 6th November 2024. The recommendations call for climate justice and the fulfilment of climate finance obligations ahead of CoP29. This handover took place at his office today.
While receiving the declaration, President Poudel stated that he will focus on the issue of loss and damage caused by climate change. Furthermore, he suggested that all delegates attending COP29 emphasize the challenges that Nepal is suffering as a result of climate change.
The National Climate Assembly, held on 6th November, discussed issues that Nepal should raise at the upcoming 29th Conference of the Parties (CoP29) on climate justice and equitable access to climate finance. The event was organised by national, regional, and international civil society forums and networks. Speakers and participants emphasised that despite contributing negligible carbon emissions, countries like Nepal suffer the most adverse effects of climate change and therefore must have just and equitable access to climate finance.
The delegation comprised representatives from the organiser of the National Climate Assembly, Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN), and co-organisers, namely: Dedicated Grant Mechanism for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (DGM Nepal), Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN), Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), World Food Forum Nepal, SathSathai, Human Rights Alliance Nepal, UN Women, Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development, Coalition for Gender Responsive Climate Policy, South Asia Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE), and LDC Watch.
