Putin Expresses Willingness for Talks with Trump, Hints at Possible Peace Deal with Ukraine
Moscow, Dec 19: Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed readiness to hold discussions with US President-elect Donald Trump “at any time,” signaling potential progress toward a peace deal with Ukraine.
Speaking at his annual end-of-year press conference, Putin stated that he believed a resolution with Ukraine could be achieved within hours if discussions were to occur after Trump assumes office in January.
Trump’s return to the White House has raised concerns in Kiev about the possibility of a peace agreement favorable to Moscow.
Putin acknowledged Russia’s strong position on the battlefield but admitted uncertainty about reclaiming the Kursk region, which Ukrainian forces attacked in August.
Addressing Trump’s proposals for peace, Putin, 72, said, “I don’t know when I’ll see him. We haven’t spoken in over four years. But I am ready—any time. If we meet, I’m sure there will be much to discuss.”
He emphasized Russia’s openness to “dialogue and agreement,” reflecting hopes for a diplomatic path forward amidst ongoing tensions.
