Kathmandu, Dec 27: The South Korean National Assembly has voted on the impeachment motion against Acting President Han Deok-soo, with 192 lawmakers casting their votes. The motion required over 151 votes to pass.

The impeachment now awaits confirmation from the Constitutional Court, which has 180 days to decide whether to uphold it.

In response, Acting President Han stated, “I respect the decision of the National Assembly and will await the Constitutional Court’s verdict.”

The impeachment follows the failed attempt by former President Yun Suk-yeol to impose martial law on December 3, leading to his removal and Han assuming the role of acting president.

Opposition lawmakers have claimed that Han’s refusal to complete the impeachment process against former President Yun prompted the motion against him. The impeachment vote in parliament on Friday was marked by significant uproar.
