Afghanistan Claims Retaliatory Strike Against Pakistan Amid Escalating Tensions
Kathmandu, Dec 29: The Afghan Ministry of Defense has claimed it conducted a retaliatory operation against Pakistan, targeting locations allegedly preparing attacks against Afghanistan.
Taliban Defense Ministry spokesman Inayatullah Khawarizmi told BBC Pashto, “The operation was in response to threats against Afghanistan.” Specific details of the attack or resulting damage remain unclear.
Pakistan’s military and Foreign Ministry have yet to comment, despite multiple inquiries from the BBC.
Earlier, Afghanistan accused Pakistan of violating its airspace and bombing a refugee camp in Paktika province, resulting in several casualties and injuries. Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch confirmed the operation, citing intelligence about threats near the border and the need to protect Pakistani citizens.
The Taliban condemned Pakistan’s actions, emphasizing Afghanistan’s right to defend its sovereignty and pledging a response.
Tensions between the two nations have been rising, with Pakistan accusing the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) of using Afghan territory for attacks—an allegation the Taliban government denies.
