Kathmandu, Feb 21: Ukraine has turned down a US proposal that would have increased American access to its critical mineral resources.

White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz suggested that Ukraine provide the US access to rare earth minerals, such as lithium and titanium, in exchange for financial aid or as compensation for past support. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky firmly rejected the offer, stating that Ukraine’s resources were not for sale.

US President Donald Trump defended the proposal, arguing that it reflected the scale of US assistance to Ukraine during its war with Russia.

Ukraine is rich in valuable minerals, including coal, gas, oil, uranium, and rare earth elements. Instead of a mineral deal, Zelensky expressed interest in signing an investment and security agreement with the US to help end the war.
