Pakistan Intelligence Issues Terrorist Threat Alert Amid Champions Trophy

Kathmandu, Feb 25: Pakistan’s intelligence bureau has issued a terrorist threat alert during the Champions Trophy. According to reports, the Islamic State of Khorasan (ISIS-K) is planning to kidnap foreign nationals and may target areas such as airports, offices, ports, and residential neighborhoods where foreigners are common.
The alert suggests that ISIS-K intends to rent properties on the outskirts of cities—locations without camera surveillance—and use rickshaws or motorcycles to transport abductees. These safe houses are planned to be used at night to avoid detection by security forces.
The alert comes as concerns grow over the security arrangements at international events in Pakistan. During a match between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Rawalpindi, a supporter of the radical party Tehreek-e-Labbaik entered the stadium carrying a picture of the party leader Saad Rizvi.
CNN News 18 reported that warnings have been issued against several terrorist groups, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, ISIS-K, and Balochistan, following concerns about a kidnapping plot. Local reports state that 12,000 police personnel, including senior officers, inspectors, and a large number of constables and women police officers, will be deployed for the games in Lahore and Rawalpindi to ensure security.
