Kathmandu, Feb 26: The Nepal Army, the main security force of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is celebrating its 262nd foundation day today with a series of events across the country. The celebration coincides with Mahashivratri, which the army has observed as Army Day for the past two decades.

President Ram Chandra Poudel, who is also the commander-in-chief of the Nepal Army, will be the chief guest at a special ceremony held at Military Forum Tundikhel. The event will feature cultural programs, a parade with weapons practice, and cannon fire on the military stage.

Nepal Army Spokesperson Gaurav Kumar KC said that celebrations will be held at Tundikhel as well as at battalions, regiments, units, and other agencies. He highlighted that the army has long been inspired by national values, traditions, and culture.

In addition to the ceremonial events, musical performances will be given by armies from India, Britain, and the United States along with the Nepal Army. Other activities include a battalion coordination meeting, an open marathon, the publication of a Unity Journal, and a photo exhibition.

Foreign students affiliated with the National Service Forces from different countries are also taking part in meetings and study visits. Some Indian ex-servicemen, one of whom holds the honorary rank of general in the Nepal Army, have come to join the main ceremony of Army Day.
