Kathmandu, March 4: The United States is reportedly preparing to ease sanctions on Russia as former President Donald Trump engages in a heated debate with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.

According to US officials, the White House has directed the Treasury and Home departments to draft a proposal outlining exemptions from existing sanctions on Russian entities, including major corporations and billionaires. The move is expected to improve US-Russia relations, which had worsened under the Biden administration due to strict sanctions and military aid to Ukraine.

The development comes after the US abruptly halted military aid to Ukraine, further straining ties between Washington and Kyiv. Amid these tensions, Zelensky traveled to the UK, where he received a warm welcome from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Starmer hosted an emergency summit with European leaders in London to discuss the security situation and strategies for supporting Ukraine. During the meeting, European leaders agreed on a peace plan for Ukraine, which will be proposed to the United States. Additionally, EU leaders pledged to increase defense spending to strengthen Ukraine’s position against Russia.

The potential policy shift by the US could significantly impact the ongoing war, as European nations continue to push for stronger support for Ukraine while divisions emerge within the West regarding the approach to Russia.
