Zelensky Hopes US Will “Stand Firm” Against Russia’s Demands

Kathmandu, March 27: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed hope that the United States will resist Russian demands regarding Western sanctions.
Russia has called for the lifting of sanctions as a condition for a ceasefire in the Black Sea. Speaking to European journalists in Paris on Wednesday, Zelensky addressed the issue in response to a BBC question about whether the US would withstand Russian pressure.
“I have hope it happens. By the grace of God, they will get it. But we’ll see,” he said.
On Tuesday, US officials revealed that Russian and Ukrainian delegations had agreed to a Black Sea ceasefire after three days of talks in Saudi Arabia. However, shortly after, Russia issued a statement clarifying that the ceasefire would only take effect if Western sanctions on its food and fertilizer trade were lifted.
