Traditional Ghode Jatra Celebrated in Kathmandu with Military Display

Kathmandu, March 29: The historic Ghode Jatra was celebrated in the Kathmandu Valley on Chait Krishna Aunshi, marking one of the oldest festivals in the region.
Rooted in legend, the festival symbolizes the defeat of demons that once tormented valley residents. The Nepal Army organized the main ceremony at Tudikhel, featuring an impressive display of horse-riding skills and military formations.
President Ram Chandra Poudel, Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and other dignitaries attended the event.
The army showcased horse jumps, cross-tent pegging, and tactical military maneuvers. A highlight of the ceremony was the trained dogs’ performance, which captivated the audience.
Despite the declining use of horses in modern transportation, their historical significance in warfare and mobility remains a key part of the celebration. President Poudel awarded winners of various events, honoring the riders and their well-trained horses.
