Kathmandu, April 7: World leaders are assessing how to respond to the new round of tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, with reactions ranging from retaliation to cautious negotiations.

According to ABC News, more than 50 countries have approached the White House to initiate trade talks since the announcement of the tariffs. While some nations are retaliating, others are opting for diplomatic solutions.

  • China and Canada have already declared retaliatory tariffs against the US.
  • Taiwan, initially appearing cautious, later announced retaliatory measures after the US imposed 32% tariffs on Taiwanese products. President Li Chi Chi stated Taiwan would also:
    • Remove trade barriers,
    • Expand investments in the US,
    • “Deepen” industrial cooperation with America.
  • Indonesia has chosen a non-confrontational approach, stating it will not retaliate but will continue trade discussions to find common ground.
  • British Prime Minister Keir Starmer assured that the UK is ready to take steps to protect its economy, emphasizing that “no one wins a trade war.”
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet with Trump soon to discuss the tariff issue directly.
