Kathmandu, April 19: Officials from the Federation of Nepalese Teachers (FNTE) held talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli regarding the ongoing protest demanding the immediate passage of the School Education Bill.

The teachers have been staging a Kathmandu-centric movement since March 6, urging swift approval of the bill that has been pending in the Federal Parliament.

During the meeting, held earlier this week, Prime Minister Oli was joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and the Minister of Education, Science and Technology.

In response to the growing pressure, the Cabinet meeting on May 10 decided to convene a session of the Federal Parliament at 1 PM on Friday, specifically to address and pass the School Education Bill.

The Cabinet also expressed that dialogue with the Federation is ongoing, aiming to find a proper resolution to the teachers’ demands. PM Oli called on the teachers to withdraw their protest and return to classrooms.

FNTE leaders who took part in the discussions included Chairman Laxmikishor Subedi, Co-Chairperson Nanumaya Parajuli, General Secretary Tula Bahadur Thapa, and Deputy General Secretary Madan Raj Joshi.
