Bollywood Rushes to Secure ‘Operation Sindur’ Title Amid Surge of Interest

Kathmandu, May 9: Following the Indian Army’s recent launch of Operation Sindur on May 7, targeting nine terrorist hideouts across seven Pakistani cities, a frenzy has erupted in Bollywood to claim the rights to the operation’s title for cinematic adaptation.
According to Dainik Bhaskar, more than 50 filmmakers have expressed interest in registering the title ‘Operation Sindur’, with at least 15 applications already submitted to the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPA). BN Tiwari, Vice President of IMPA, confirmed that he began receiving calls from early morning on May 7 from producers eager to reserve the name.
The sudden spike in interest has turned into a race among filmmakers, screenwriters, and production houses to capitalize on the name, which many believe could anchor a blockbuster military drama. Several applicants are also reportedly considering variations such as ‘Desh Ka Sindur’, ‘Insaf Ka Sindur’, or ‘Operation Sindur: A True Story’, but the core title will be awarded only to the first valid applicant, as per IMPA rules.
The demand has extended beyond film to include ideas for web series, songs, and even trademark registrations. One notable entrant, Reliance Industries, applied for a trademark under Class 41 but later withdrew the application on May 7.
BN Tiwari remarked this is the first time so many filmmakers have simultaneously applied for a single title, describing it as unprecedented in scale.
The real-life military operation’s dramatic narrative and political backdrop have already cemented its appeal in the eyes of content creators, many of whom are racing to complete scripts and conceptual frameworks in hopes of leading the project.
