Trump Urges Ukraine to Accept Putin’s Offer for Peace Talks in Turkey

Kathmandu, May 12: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Ukraine to accept Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal for peace talks to be held in Turkey amid the ongoing war.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated, “Putin does not want a ceasefire now but is willing to hold negotiations in Turkey on Thursday. Ukraine must agree to this.”
He emphasized that such a meeting would at least clarify whether a peace agreement is possible. “If not, European leaders and the United States will better understand the situation and be able to decide the next steps,” he added.
Trump also expressed skepticism over any agreement being reached with Putin, who he claimed is more focused on commemorating Russia’s World War II victory. “Without U.S. support, Ukraine would not have come this close to victory,” Trump said.
Russian President Putin on Sunday confirmed his readiness for direct and immediate negotiations, proposing that talks begin on May 15 in Istanbul.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has maintained that Ukraine is only willing to hold discussions if Russia agrees to a ceasefire beforehand.
