Kathmandu, May 15: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has pledged that the Everest Dialogue will prioritize solutions to the growing climate change impacts in mountainous regions, especially Solukhumbu and Thame.

While receiving the climbing conference report and the climate dialogue manifesto at Baluwatar, prepared by the Saathsathai Foundation, PM Oli said the government is committed to working effectively at the foothills of the Himalayas. “I will give priority to the problems in the mountainous regions of Nepal including Thame in the Everest Dialogue,” he stated.

The three-day Everest Dialogue, which begins soon, is set to amplify Nepal’s stance on climate justice, stretching from the Himalayas to the Terai.

The Thame Conference, held weeks earlier in the avalanche-affected region, was recognized by the government as a pre-event to the Everest Dialogue. The international event was organized by Saathsathai in partnership with all three levels of government, including the Ministry of Forests and Environment.

Presenting the report, Saathsathai Chairperson Prajita Karki praised PM Oli’s global-level initiatives for climate justice. She emphasized that the Thame program, built on local participation, is a message leading into the broader policy-focused Everest Dialogue.

The event was attended by Princess Ashma Al Thami of Qatar, a renowned Everest climber and climate expert, along with Defense Minister Manbir Rai and Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri.

A five-point declaration was issued, focusing on justice for climate-affected areas like Thame and the broader Khumbu region.

“This program in Thame is a bridge between government and community, ensuring local voices are integrated into national climate dialogues,” said Karki.
