SP Urges Clarity on Inquiry Committee Over Visit Visa Scandal

Kathmandu, June 13: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Vice-President and Member of Parliament Dr. Swarnim Wagle said on Thursday that there is still uncertainty regarding the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee on the ongoing visit visa scandal.
Wagle stated that both the ruling and opposition parties have agreed to move the issue forward jointly, but clarity is yet to emerge on whether to form an investigative committee. He emphasized that the RSP remains firm on its demand that the issue be investigated by a special parliamentary committee.
“The RSP will not compromise beyond the points in its five-point proposal,” he said. Discussions are ongoing among leaders from both the opposition and the ruling coalition, but no final agreement has been reached on forming the committee.
Wagle stressed that the matter involves serious concerns, especially for the UCPN (Maoist) and the CPN-UML, and urged that all three major parties treat it with the urgency and gravity it deserves.
The UCPN (Maoist) has reportedly insisted on setting a specific date and procedure for the investigation, which it says must be conducted fairly and transparently.
Wagle concluded by saying that the top leadership of all major parties must recognize the seriousness of the issue and act accordingly to maintain public trust.
