Washington DC, June 15: Two Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota were attacked at their homes in separate incidents, leaving State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark dead, while State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were injured.

According to police, the gunman, disguised as a police officer, shot the lawmakers in what is suspected to be a politically motivated attack.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed deep sorrow, saying, “Melissa was a wonderful public servant. I can’t believe she’s gone.”

The shooting at the Hortman residence in Brooklyn Park left both Melissa and Mark dead. Meanwhile, Senator Hoffman and his wife were attacked at their Champlain home, about 12 kilometers away. Hoffman was shot at least twice, and his wife three times. Both survived after surgery and are expected to recover.

The attacker remains at large, and police have launched a massive search across the area. Authorities have warned residents to avoid opening their doors unless two police officers are present, as the suspect may still be posing as law enforcement.

While the exact motive remains under investigation, initial reports suggest the shootings could be linked to political reasons.
