High-Level Government Reform Commission Meets Under PM Oli to Streamline Public Services

Kathmandu, June 22: The second meeting of the High-Level Government Reform Commission, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, is being held today at the Prime Minister’s Office to advance efforts in improving public service delivery and administrative reforms.
According to Dr. Bhishma Kumar Bhusal, Joint Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the meeting will focus on making public services simple, accessible, and hassle-free for citizens.
The commission, formed under PM Oli’s leadership, held its first meeting in June. Its members include:
- Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel
- Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak
- Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ajay Kumar Chaurasia
- Federal Affairs and General Administration Minister Raj Kumar Gupta
The process is also underway to nominate two members from political parties and three expert members, including one woman, to the commission.
Commission’s Objectives:
The reform commission aims to:
- Simplify the structure, procedures, and technology used by service delivery agencies
- Prevent duplication of efforts and delays in decision-making
- Strengthen coordination across federal, provincial, and local levels of government
- Improve laws, working procedures, and administrative systems to align with federalism
- Enhance the civil service to be more competent, accountable, and motivated
- Promote good governance through legislative and procedural reforms
The commission’s work is seen as a crucial step in modernizing Nepal’s bureaucracy and ensuring that governance keeps pace with the demands of a federal system.
