Kathmandu, June 25: The Infrastructure Development Committee of the House of Representatives has expressed serious concerns over the sluggish progress of the Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Project, a national pride initiative.

At a recent meeting, the committee concluded that the overall progress of the project is currently only at 1 percent, which it deemed highly unsatisfactory. Committee Chairman Deepak Bahadur Singh stated that the committee would now study project documents in detail and seek further clarification from the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.

“The progress is extremely limited despite the importance of the project. We need to understand the reasons behind the delay,” Singh said.

The committee also criticized the government for failing to appoint a project chief for the past nine months, urging immediate action to fill the vacancy. The project is being constructed by Raman Construction JV Petal Company.

The committee emphasized that without proper leadership and accountability, national pride projects like this one will continue to face obstacles.
