Prachanda Urges Current Leadership to Fulfill Girija Prasad Koirala’s Democratic Vision

Kathmandu, Jul 4: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the current leadership must work to fulfill the dream of late Girija Prasad Koirala, who played a major role in Nepal’s democratic transition and peace process.
Speaking at a special program at Shital Niwas on the occasion of Koirala’s 102nd birth anniversary, Prachanda praised Koirala’s contribution to democracy and peace but expressed concern over current political and judicial practices.
He stated that the current government’s actions, the functioning of the parliament, and the judiciary were not in line with the promises made to the people. He questioned whether Nepal was truly moving toward a democratic and people-focused system.
Prachanda also criticized the ruling party for underestimating the challenges facing the country and emphasized the need for people-oriented development projects like the postal and mid-hill highways to better understand public concerns.
The event was attended by President Ram Chandra Poudel, Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, political leaders, members of the Girija Prasad Koirala Foundation, and civil society representatives. Speakers remembered Koirala’s role in promoting democracy, human rights, and peace in Nepal.
