Kathmandu, Jul 7: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the need for strong infrastructure and self-reliance to unlock the full potential of Nepal’s tourism sector.

Speaking at a national seminar titled ‘Tourism in Nepal: Status, Challenges and Prospects’ on Monday, PM Oli said Nepal has enormous opportunities in tourism, but to attract visitors, proper facilities must be in place.

“Nepal has great potential for tourism, but we must focus on improving infrastructure. No tourist arrives on a bicycle—we need ships, good airports, and a comfortable environment to welcome them,” he said. Oli stressed the importance of creating a tourist-friendly atmosphere to grow the sector.

He also pointed out that around 300,000 Nepalis are working abroad, showing how hardworking and capable Nepalis are. “Nepalis are known globally as a working community,” he said.

Highlighting China’s development as an example, Oli stated that self-reliance is essential. “China developed on its own. If a country cannot rely on its own people, how can it expect help from others?” he questioned.

He concluded by saying that Nepal cannot rely solely on external aid and must prioritize its own resources, policies, and efforts for sustainable development.
