Busan, South Korea, July 9 : The 2025 Kimunyong Cup Taekwondo Championship, a globally renowned world-ranking event, concluded successfully from July 5 to July 8, 2025, at Gijang Gymnasium in Busan, South Korea. Raju Chhetri, an esteemed international referee, played a pivotal role in officiating the championship, marking his third appearance as a referee at this prestigious tournament.

The event saw fierce competition among nearly 2,500 athletes representing 40 countries, showcasing the finest taekwondo talent worldwide. Chhetri, who made history in April 2025 as the first foreigner appointed Vice President of the Overseas Department at World Taekwondo Headquarters in South Korea, brought his expertise and precision to ensure fair and seamless matches throughout the championship.

Chhetri’s refereeing credentials are extensive, with this event marking his third consecutive year officiating at the US Open Taekwondo Championship (Las Vegas 2023 and Reno 2024). He has also served as a referee at major international competitions, including the G-1 Kimunyong Cup in South Korea, the Japan Open in Osaka, and the 2023 Seongnam Open in South Korea.

A former taekwondo athlete, Chhetri claimed a gold medal at the 2008 G-2 Korean Open International Championship. His contributions to the sport were recognized by the South Korean government, which honored him with honorary citizenship in 2013.
