Israeli Forces Strike Syrian Targets as Communal Violence Escalates in Druze Region

Kathmandu, Jul 17: Tensions flared further in Syria on Wednesday as Israeli forces launched strikes on the Defense Ministry in Damascus and government troops in southern Syria, amid intensifying communal violence in the Druze-majority province.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the military action, stating, “We are working to protect our Druze brothers and destroy armed groups in Syria.” However, the Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the assault, calling it a “fraudulent attack.”
The conflict between indigenous Bedouin communities and Druze militias has now claimed the lives of over 300 people, raising alarm internationally.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed concern over the ongoing violence. “We are deeply concerned about the deteriorating situation in southern Syria,” he stated, while also expressing optimism for resolution. “We have agreed on some measures. These measures will distract and end this terrible situation tonight,” Rubio posted on the social media platform Xma on Tuesday night.
In response, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said it welcomed U.S. efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the escalating crisis.
As of now, Israeli authorities have not issued any further comments regarding the strikes or the unfolding situation.
