Kathmandu, July 30: The Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza has announced a grim milestone, reporting that more than 60,000 people have been killed since Israeli military operations began in October 2023.

As of Monday, the ministry reported 60,034 deaths and 145,870 injuries resulting from sustained airstrikes and ground assaults. On Tuesday morning alone, 112 more deaths were recorded, including 22 civilians reportedly killed while searching for humanitarian aid.

The conflict was ignited by a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which claimed approximately 1,200 Israeli lives and resulted in 251 hostages being taken. In response, Israel launched one of its most extensive and prolonged military campaigns in recent history.

Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly raised alarms over the escalating civilian toll and deteriorating living conditions in Gaza, with thousands displaced and infrastructure in ruins.

The death toll, reported by Hamas authorities, has not been independently verified due to limited access for international observers. However, global pressure is mounting for a ceasefire and a renewed push for diplomatic resolution.

The situation remains volatile, and international responses continue to evolve.
