Kathmandu, July 30: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced the construction of a massive new stadium in Suryavinayak Municipality, Bhaktapur, with a seating capacity of 50,000 spectators, in a major push to uplift Nepal’s sports infrastructure.
Speaking at a program organized by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) at Dasharath Stadium on Thursday, Prime Minister Oli shared that the new stadium would serve as a landmark facility for Nepali sports and support the nation’s growing interest in athletics.
“We must move forward to make Nepal gold medal winners in all sports,” he said, adding that the Suryavinayak stadium would be ready by the time “our young children arrive,” symbolizing long-term national investment in youth and athletics.
In addition to football, PM Oli emphasized the promotion of cricket, pledging maximum preservation and use of the Kirtipur Cricket Stadium, one of the country’s most prominent venues for the sport.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to build international-standard stadiums in Dhanusha and Jhapa, assuring that there would be no shortage of sports training facilities across the country in the near future.
The announcement marks a significant step in the government’s effort to expand Nepal’s sporting capabilities and inspire a new generation of athletes.
