Kathmandu, August 13: Britain, France, and Germany (the E3) have warned Iran that they are prepared to reimpose strict UN sanctions if Tehran does not resume nuclear program negotiations by the end of August.

In a statement to the United Nations, the three European powers said they are ready to trigger the “snapback mechanism” — a provision from the 2015 nuclear deal that would automatically restore all previously lifted sanctions if Iran is deemed to be in violation of the agreement.

The E3 have reportedly offered to extend the deadline for talks until the end of August, but Iran has yet to respond.

Tehran said last month it was willing to return to negotiations, but only if existing sanctions were lifted and its right to a civilian nuclear program was recognized.
